This is an attempt at my family's genealogy on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. If any family members have any corrections, amplifications or scans of photographs taken before 1950, I'd really appreciate hearing from you! I'm told that much of the information about my uncle Reuben's children is incorrect. I will correct it when they send me corrections.

 

Legend has it that the Tysons (Sephardim) originated in the middle east and migrated to Spain. During the Spanish Inquisition, the Tysons headed north and fragmented into France (Tison), Holland (Tijssen) and England (Tyson). In England, the Tysons settled in the Lakes District, near Watendlath. The Tysons that became my family migrated to America in the 1690s, moving from Cumbria in England to Cumberland County in North Carolina. That would have been Soloman Tyson's grandfather.

 

On the other side, the Askews, much speculation is necessary. Legend has it that the Askews, also Sephardim, followed the same migration path as the Tysons, eventually into England, where they settled near the coast (which coast, heaven only knows). The Askews who became my family took to the sea as pirates, and eventually settled in North Carolina, calling their settlement Askewville. This is "history" as told to my uncle Reuben Askew when he was a theological student in North Carolina.
